Good-Bye Wellington

Hello All!!

It is our last night in Wellington, and we thought we'd take the opportunity to show you what we've been up to this week, as well as fill you in on our plans for the future...

We went on a tour of the parliament buildings
(they wouldn't let us take pictures inside, so this is representative of the trip)

But... then the tour was over and they weren't looking so Emily took a picture... I wonder how many rules we broke with this one
(the tour was obviously very interesting)

FREEDOM!!
(The "beehive" is the building in the back - the primary governmental structure of NZ)

Eleventh commandment?  Since when?

 The beautiful bay

Wellington Civic Square and the city

Chilling out, chilling out
(one of our favorite pastimes of late has been reading and soaking up the rays)

Only true Wellingtonians go barefoot down the street

We took some old bread (dumpster diving bread) to Civic Square to feed the birds...
only in their excitement they ended up throwing it back at us

Kiwi Cops - not at all scary because they don't carry guns

Dinner at Fidel's with Zac and Jane

Guy Fawkes Fireworks!!

The greatest firework show Sadie has ever seen!!  ($160,000 worth!)

...?

Pretending to be dead possums...
the fireworks may have excited us just a bit too much...

We spend an average of 12 hrs a day in our sleepingbags...
in this case Sadie needed a lift up the stairs.

Tramping the streets in skinny jeans and gum boot... al'right!

We went to "Made in Dagenham" with Helen...
(apparently we broke "copyright law" with this picture and couldn't take more)

Hogwarts, here we come!

Emily and her mate are ready to board the train!

Raaawr!!
(the train station with Jane)

Monday we went to an "artsy party" at church and made Christmas ornaments

Stairs to "The Jesus Hill"  where we spend exorbitant amounts of time

"Oh Zac.... Zac Effron...!!!"
(please note that Emily is still in her sleeping bag)

Sadie and Emily don't always have the same taste in men...
(Please note that his arm 'tat' says "I heart my mom")

As for our future plans, tomorrow we are heading to Christchurch on the south island.  We will conveniently be there for the New Zealand Cup this coming weekend, a huge horse racing event.  We already have our tickets, dresses, and hats in hand!!  From there we will be hitch-hiking our way north to the lovely town of Nelson where we will be staying with friends of Larryn (our friends are so good to us!!).  We then plan on hiking the Abel Tasman for a couple days before catching the ferry back to Wellington and bussing back to Auckland for a U2 concert on the 26th!!!  Thanks to Larryn, we have tickets and we're totally stoked!!!  We will visit Les and Linda again and travel part of the Coromandel Peninsula before flying south once more to Christchurch.... yes, there is a lot of traveling here, there, and everywhere in our future.

We've loved our time in Wellington, but we're really looking forward to being on the open road again!

Thanks for all the prayers and support!!  We miss and love you all!!
XOXO,
Em and Sades

PS Great job on commenting last time... keep 'em coming!!!  (We seriously check the blog excitedly everyday to see if we have anymore comments.)

  1. Aw, how cute that you check the blog every day for comments! I have a question for you: why is it called "The Jesus Hill?" Also, I didn't know they celebrated Guy Fawkes in NZ, because isn't it a British holiday?

  3. This was fun, Emily and Sadie. I'm glad to see you have some things mapped out.

A U2 concert is amazing. I wish I could go. Do you two know all the lyrics so you can sing along?

We'll try to call you over the next few days!

    Love you two lots.

  5. Yes! We love the comments!!

Linda, The Jesus Hill is a hill on top of a park that over looks the city. It was about a 5 minute walk from our flat, so we visited it quite often. When either of us wanted some time alone or to go read or pray on our own we would go to the Jesus Hill and He would show up. So then we just started calling it the Jesus Hill.

Auntie Ruth, it is spring here, but that means that the weather is very volitile. Sometimes it it sunny and beautiful and the next day it will look like a hurricane. It's always chilly at night though and our flat never really warmed up, so we just hung out in our sleeping bags a lot.

Mum and Dad, No, we don't know all the lyrics yet. We know enough to sing along to most of the songs, especially the big hits. Besides that, the experience will be well worth it. We're totally stoked. Maybe you can fly over and come with us? Haha.

Jane, we love your comment! It's Kiwi as! And yes, on our way back through we'd love to have a cuppa! We'll let you know when we get close?

Thanks all for the comments. We love you!!
    Cheers!

  6. BLARG. Seriously mad. wrote a long comment that got deleted.... SO I repeat... and then it deleted again... glad I copied and pasted.
apparently I have been slacking in my friendly stalker duties because this post has been up almost a WEEK without my noticing.

first. LOVE this post! so many funny pictures!
I love Sades face down on the couch. looks so funny!
and you know.. sades relaxing on the stairs of the building looking nice and stylishly relaxed and then you notice something that looks out of place in the background... oh it's just Emily defying gravity, no big deal.

Jesus hill looks incredible. I imagine it would be hard to be somewhere as beautiful as that in nature and not feel his presence. awesome.

as for the sleeping bags, love that too. Sounds like me and nathan around our place. so cold all of the time and it's INDOORS. I wear long johns under my pj pants and a sweater and wool socks under a wooly blanky and I'm STILL cold INSIDE. I mean.... really?

you guys make me laugh. I am on Sadie's side on the Zac effron debate... sorry Em... hah.

and also a huge fan of the dumpster diving. that's awesome! and to feed the birds too! all of your pictures look like SO much fun! and I'm incredibly jealous of U2. That is going to be incredible. They do the most phenomenal live shows and such a good message as well. SO JEALOUS.

I do believe I am overdue for a facebook message informing me of more girlie details of life... hint larryn and general girlieness. please do respond as I will be checking daily with excitement myself... that is all.

ps. that wasn't all. Also jealous of platform 9 3/4. I am soo very excited to see the next movie this weekend. Taking momma out with the rest of the fam to see it opening night friday. Going to buy tickets tonight.

MUCH MUCH MUCH love to both of you!
    that is actually all.

Control A and control C incase it deletes again... not making that mistake a second time...correct that.. third time.
